Daulet Sembayev

Daulet Sembayev – financier, statesman

Daulet Sembayev was one of the co-authors of President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s first economic strategy plan for Kazakhstan. In 1991-1993, being Deputy Prime Minister, he spearheaded economic reforms. Later, in a capacity of the Governor of the National Bank, Daulet Sembayev implemented Kazakhstan’s transition to the national currency led a working group implementing pension reform in Kazakhstan. In 1995 – 1997, he was a member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Sembayev holds the following national awards – the medal “Parasat”, the Order of the Red Banner and the Order of the Badge of Honor.

In 1999 and 2011, he served in the Board of Directors of Kazkommertsbank.

In 2000 – 2004, Sembayev chaired the Association of Financiers of Kazakhstan. Since 2004, he serves as its honorary chairman.

Since December 2009, he serves on the Board of Trustees at the International Academy of Business (currently, Almaty Management University).

Juldyz Smagulova

Juldyz Smagulova is Executive Director of Language Center at the KIMEP University (Almaty, Kazakhstan).

Juldyz Smagulova is Executive Director of Language Center at the KIMEP University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). She received her Ph.D. in Sociolinguistics from King’s College London (UK, 2012) and her Candidate of Philological Sciences from al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Kazakhstan, 2004). Juldyz Smagulova has more 20 articles and book chapters published internationally and in Kazakhstan; co-authored a textbook for secondary schools The Kazakh language for Russian-medium schools, Grade 5 (Atamura, 2015), co-authored bilingual Kazakh-Russian Dictionary of Sociolinguistics (Arman PV, 2008).

Her research can be classified under four major interrelated strands: language ideology; language and education policy; language and literacy; and language pedagogy. These strands are held together by common scholarly interest in multilingual context where different speakers have different access to linguistic and other resources.

Vyacheslav Abramov

Vyacheslav Abramov has more than 20 years of experience in journalism and civil society development.

Vyacheslav Abramov has more than 20 years of experience in journalism and civil society development.

He has worked as a reporter in local TV stations, radio and news agencies. Since 2006, he was a director of MediaNet - local media watchdog organization. In 2010, he became a deputy director and then country director of the Freedom House office in Kazakhstan.

In 2012,  Vyacheslav with a group of colleagues established the internet magazine Vlast.kz and became its editor-in-chief. 

Vyacheslav graduated from the Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Department of International Journalism).
